Softball Recap: Mt. Zion Has No Trouble Against Urbana

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mt. Zion walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Urbana Tigers with a sharp 12-1 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won 19 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ella Fink was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fink was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, Mt. Zion let Ana Kanemaru and Chloe Williams run wild. Kanemaru got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Kanemaru a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Doolin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Mt. Zion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Mt. Zion is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Urbana, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.

As of now, neither Mt. Zion nor Urbana have any future games scheduled.
