Softball Recap: Berlin Wins Going Away Against Edwin O. Smith

Berlin was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Edwin O. Smith on Friday. The Redcoats blew past the Panthers 15-3. For the Redcoats, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Madeline Mota was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Berlin got a massive performance out of Izzy Andersen, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Andersen a new career-high. Julia Matan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Berlin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Berlin now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Edwin O. Smith, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Berlin wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-1 victory against Glastonbury on the 14th. As for Edwin O. Smith, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-11 win against Middletown on the 14th.
