Preview: Burton Pumas vs. Lincoln Mustangs
Burton is 0-8 against Lincoln since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Burton Pumas will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Mustangs at 1:30 p.m. Burton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Burton fell victim to Balboa's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Buccaneers at home and fell 57-0. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burton in their matchups with Balboa: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Lincoln entered their tilt with Washington with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Lincoln simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Washington 50-6 at home. Lincoln might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four contests by 25 points or more this season.
Jamelle Newman had a dynamite game for Lincoln, rushing for 173 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Newman's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
Burton's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Lincoln, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3.
Burton was taken down by Lincoln 51-14 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Burton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
