Basketball Recap: Lufkin Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lufkin can now relate to. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 53-52 to the Highland Park Scots. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Scots are ranked 60th).

Lufkin's defeat dropped their record down to 34-3. As for Highland Park, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 27-7.

Lufkin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Highland Park, they will square off against West Mesquite on Monday. West Mesquite will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Highland Park surely won't give up without a fight.
