Softball Recap: Sterling Tigers vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers

If Sterling was riding high fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Platte Valley last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sterling Tigers lost 10-4 to the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers on Saturday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.

Makenzie Beck and Kenah Meraz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Beck scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Meraz went 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run. Beck is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Sterling's loss dropped their record down to 12-10-2. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Sterling nor Montezuma-Cortez have any future games scheduled.
