Football Recap: Waterville Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Waterville's offense. They took a blow against the Spruce Mountain Phoenix on Friday, falling 52-0. The Panthers lost against the Phoenix in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 32-22 score last time.

Spruce Mountain got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dylan Jewett out in front who rushed for 103 yards and two scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten passes. Jewett also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending one pass. Spruce Mountain's leading receiver Levi Richards was Jewett's top target yet again, picking up 169 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Waterville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Spruce Mountain, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waterville will host Mount Desert Island at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spruce Mountain, they will welcome Yarmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Phoenix's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
