Jefferson is a perfect 10-0 against Greenbrier East since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Jefferson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Jefferson's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Musselman with a sharp 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Sam Hefner was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Andrew Rolfe also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier East narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Shady Spring 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Brady May spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zion Detko, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
Jefferson's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier East, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jefferson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greenbrier East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Jefferson beat Greenbrier East 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
