Basketball Game Preview: Flowers Jaguars vs. DuVal Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars challenge the Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Flowers strolled past Parkdale with points to spare, taking the game 78-63. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.

Flowers found their leader in sophomore Brandon Brooks, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tyrell Bowles, who went 5-for-10 en route to 12 points along with eight boards and six blocks.

DuVal has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-61 heartbreaker at the hands of Bladensburg. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Mustangs are ranked 247th).

DuVal's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Flowers, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3.

Flowers took their win against DuVal in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 78-58. Does Flowers have another victory up their sleeve, or will DuVal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
