Melrose entered their tilt with Douglass on Thursday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 66-0 win over the Red Devils. The Golden Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Melrose's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reginald Banks, who rushed for 90 yards and two TDs. Banks showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 50 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Thomas Heffner, who threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns.

Another reason for the win was Melrose's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Douglass' QB won't forget Mario Rodgers anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Rodgers is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last three games he's played. Melrose received some extra help from Keymond Jones, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Melrose's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Douglass, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Melrose will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Raleigh-Egypt at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Douglass, they will square off against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
