Volleyball Recap: Cactus Comes Up Short

Cactus was the 3-1 winner over Goldwater when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cobras fell 3-1 to the Bulldogs on Thursday.

Cactus was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Goldwater work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 19-25, 25-15, 25-14.

When it comes to explaining why Cactus lost, don't look at Vinnie Vitale. Despite the final result, he had 23 digs and two aces. Vitale has been hot, having posted 16 or more digs the last five times he's played. Dillon Hommel was another key player, getting 21 assists and four digs.

Cactus' loss dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Goldwater, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Coincidentally, Cactus and Goldwater will both be playing Deer Valley the next time they take the court. The Cobras will head out to face the Skyhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Bulldogs will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
