Baseball Recap: Havelock Comes Up Short

Havelock extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 11-9. They lost 9-3 to the Swansboro Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 7th.

Austin Livingston was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Swansboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Swansboro's side, Patrick Hollifield and DJ Schofield made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hollifield struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Schofield didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Hollifield got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Schofield went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. Those three hits gave Schofield a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Landen Jenkins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Havelock didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-4 win against North Lenoir on the 29th. As for Swansboro, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-1 victory against Richlands on the 1st.
