Basketball Game Preview: Carmel Corsairs vs. Antioch Sequoits

The Carmel Corsairs will face off against the Antioch Sequoits at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Carmel is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Marist just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 42-34 to the RedHawks. While losing is never fun, the Corsairs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the RedHawks are ranked 41st).

Meanwhile, Antioch unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 67-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wauconda.

Carmel will need focus on slowing down Heidi Rathmann, one of several Antioch players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Scarlett Carroll, who earned 13 points.

Antioch's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Carmel, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.

Everything came up roses for Carmel against Antioch in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 62-32 win. In that game, Carmel amassed a halftime lead of 40-20, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
