Softball Recap: Maumee Wins Going Away Against Liberty Center

It was a proper cat-fight when Maumee took on Liberty Center on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 12-1. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.

Hannah Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Julia Coutcher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Maumee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Center only managed three hits.

The win got Maumee back to even at 4-4. As for Liberty Center, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Maumee will challenge Fostoria at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Liberty Center, they will head out to challenge Rossford at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
