Preview: Mentorship Academy Sharks vs. South Plaquemines Hurricanes
The Mentorship Academy Sharks will head out on the road to face off against the South Plaquemines Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mentorship Academy has struggled recently with 11 defeats in a row, while South Plaquemines will arrive with five straight victories.
Mentorship Academy fell victim to Parkview Baptist's stalwart defense last Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 49-0 loss at the hands of the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Mentorship Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 286th, while Parkview Baptist is ranked 78th).
Meanwhile, South Plaquemines can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They blew past Thomas Jefferson 56-14 on the road.
Mentorship Academy's defeat was their 11th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 University Lab and 7-1 Wossman (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.9% over those games). As for South Plaquemines, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Mentorship Academy was dealt a bruising 56-26 defeat at the hands of South Plaquemines in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Mentorship Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
