Baseball Recap: Lecanto Takes a Loss

Lecanto fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Crystal River on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crystal River Pirates. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Lecanto saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Russell, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Russell a new career-high in hits. David Logue also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Lecanto hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crystal River struck out eight times.

Lecanto's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Crystal River, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.

Looking ahead, Lecanto will take on Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mitchell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Crystal River, they will square off against Dunnellon at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
