Basketball Recap: Central Beats Batavia for Their Fourth Straight Win

Central had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They secured a 53-47 W over the Batavia Bulldogs. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Central to victory were Jacob Johnson and LJ Kerr. Johnson posted eight points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds, while Kerr went 5 for 8 en route to 14 points. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden West, who scored seven points.

Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Batavia, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will face off against Crystal Lake South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crystal Lake South knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Central likes a good challenge. As for Batavia, they will square off against St. Charles North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
