Basketball Recap: Northwest Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Northwest Vikings lost to the Gretna East Griffins at home by a 63-49 margin. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Griffins 17-9 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Northwest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dawson Urbanski posted 11 points and three steals. That's the most steals Urbanski has posted since back in December of 2023.

Drayke Brown was a one-man wrecking crew for Gretna East as he went 6 of 15 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Levinson, who had nine points.

Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Northwest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-45 loss against Crete on the 13th. As for Gretna East, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-57 defeat against Pius X on the 12th.
