Baseball Game Preview: Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders vs. Glen Ridge Ridgers

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders will square off against the Glen Ridge Ridgers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Scotch Plains-Fanwood has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Friday, Scotch Plains-Fanwood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Summit. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by just one run.

Connor Hayeck tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ronnie Germinder, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Glen Ridge's offense. They lost 9-0 to Newark Academy on Thursday.

The win got Scotch Plains-Fanwood back to even at 2-2. As for Glen Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Scotch Plains-Fanwood's way against Glen Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Scotch Plains-Fanwood made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
