Softball Game Preview: South Panola Tigers vs. Neshoba Central Rockets

The South Panola Tigers will face off against the Neshoba Central Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

South Panola is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Warren Central as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won 19 games in a row.

Grady Beck Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kailey McKinney was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Makenzie Houston was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

South Panola hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 29 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Neshoba Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Grenada get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Neshoba Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for South Panola, their victory bumped their record up to 29-2.

South Panola skirted past Neshoba Central 5-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
