Basketball Recap: Sophie Hortman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lassiter over Dutchtown

If Lassiter was riding high fresh off their 59-34 takedown of Centennial last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lassiter Trojans fell just short of the Dutchtown Bulldogs by a score of 54-52 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Trojans have suffered since November 30, 2024.

Lassiter lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sophie Hortman, who posted 18 points and five boards. That's the most points Hortman has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbi Maher, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 16 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dutchtown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Serenity Scott, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Jaleia Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Lassiter now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Dutchtown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Lassiter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-49 win against Roswell on the 4th. As for Dutchtown, they will head out to challenge Langston Hughes at 6:00 p.m. on January 7th. Langston Hughes will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Dutchtown surely won't give up without a fight.
