Softball Recap: Erskine Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Poland

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Erskine Academy had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Poland Knights 6-5. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Kelsie Dunn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lillian Clark and Kammie Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Clark went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Thompson got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Clark has posted since back in May. Kylie Bellows also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Erskine Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Poland, they moved to 8-9 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Erskine Academy will challenge Leavitt on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. Poland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
