Baseball Recap: Wausau West Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Menomonie, Wausau West was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tomahawk Hatchets a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Warriors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Keegan Kruzan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kruzan was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miles Waldvogel, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Tony Iafalldano was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Wausau West's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Tomahawk, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wausau West will take on Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Tomahawk, they will host Medford at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.5 runs per game on average), something the Hatchets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
