Basketball Preview: Clovis Wildcats vs. Roswell Coyotes
Clovis has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Roswell Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Clovis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
Last Friday, Clovis faced the Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Clovis was outmatched by the Eagles at home and fell 72-42. Clovis was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-18.
Clovis' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kailyn Jefferson, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Zarai Lewis who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Jefferson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.
Meanwhile, Roswell came into Friday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past Carlsbad 41-38. The victory was just what Roswell needed coming off of a 61-11 defeat in their prior game.
Clovis' defeat dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Roswell, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Clovis was able to grind out a solid win over the Coyotes in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 52-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clovis since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
