Baseball Recap: Calico Rock Comes Up Short

Calico Rock had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it four. They lost 14-0 to the West Side Eagles. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Pirates haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for West Side, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

For West Side's part, Grayson Inzer and Ty Hewitt were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Inzer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hewitt pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Inzer went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hewitt got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Hewitt a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alex Gardner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooks Hipp, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Calico Rock will face off against Viola at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Side, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 18-6 victory against Guy-Perkins on the 21st.
