Soccer Game Preview: Newman Smith vs. Wakeland

Newman Smith hasn't had much luck against Wakeland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will take on the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m.

Newman Smith fell victim to Turner and their airtight defense on Thursday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.

Meanwhile, Wakeland beat Reedy 3-1 last Thursday. Given Wakeland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked second, while Reedy are ranked 46th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newman Smith now has a losing record of 3-4-1. As for Wakeland, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Newman Smith suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Wakeland in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
