Softball Game Preview: Romeoville Spartans vs. Oswego Panthers

Romeoville hasn't had much luck against Oswego recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will head out to take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m.

Romeoville fell victim to Yorkville and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Foxes. The Spartans' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Lillian Roberts spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

Oswego came out on top against Plainfield East on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Panthers never let the Bengals get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 17 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jaelynn Anthony was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Anthony was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Adalynn Fugitt was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs. Another player making a difference was Kiyah Chavez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Oswego's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Romeoville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.

Romeoville suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Oswego when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
