Sentinel has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hellgate recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spartans will head out to square off against the Knights at 3:00 p.m. Sentinel has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sentinel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Glacier, who was ranked eighth at the time (Sentinel was ranked 21st). The Spartans took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack on Thursday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hailey Papp was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sydney Goldbar, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Hellgate fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Flathead on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Braves/Bravettes by a score of 5-4. The Knights just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.
Avery King spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Nat Blaney made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. Kaylie Moe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Sentinel now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Hellgate, their record is now 3-14.
Hellgate's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sentinel has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Hellgate, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Sentinel's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sentinel took their victory against Hellgate in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
