Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Temple). They put the hurt on the Bryan Vikings with a sharp 56-34 victory on Friday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Vikings are ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Champ Mayo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 369 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Cavalli Nealy helped Mayo out on the ground, rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.7 yards per carry.

Temple didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Lezlie Jackson. He also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 12.

Temple was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 333 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive contests.

Bryan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jevalen Wade, who rushed for 148 yards while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Boone Turner was another key player, throwing for 327 yards and two touchdowns.

Temple is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Bryan, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Temple is taking a road trip to take on Copperas Cove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Temple knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Copperas Cove likes a good challenge. As for Bryan, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Midway at 7:30 p.m. Midway will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
