Basketball Game Preview: Creede Miners vs. Antonito Trojans

Having just played yesterday, the Creede Miners will get right back to it and host the Antonito Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Creede will be strutting in after a win while Antonito will be coming in after a defeat.

Creede took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Lake City Community 53-23. That looming 53-23 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Miners yet this season.

Creede's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Charlie Fairchild, who went 8-for-12 to rack up 16 points and seven steals. Fairchild has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Fazio, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Creede was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Antonito came up short against Sangre de Cristo on Saturday, falling 51-28. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now lost six in a row.

Antonito's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Creede, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.

Creede beat Antonito 41-29 in their previous matchup on February 1st. Will Creede repeat their success, or does Antonito have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
