League recap: King climbs in state rankings with win

King moved up to 396 from 589 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 28. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by beating Victoria East 35-13.

Steele extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Westlake, 35-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Knights.

Steele's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Breylann McCollum threw for 98 and two touchdowns and Matthew Moen had 44 yards receiving. On the ground Justin Stockton chipped in 106 yards. Thaddeous Thompson helped Steele's passing attack out by catching three balls for 23 yards.

Steele's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. McCollum has thrown for 409 yards and four touchdowns this season, while D'Angelo Wallace has 10 catches for 119 yards. Stockton leads the league in rushing with 491 yards.

King was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A Region IV District 28. Eddie Hesseltine's team defeated the Titans 35-13 earlier in the week.
