Softball Game Preview: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. Cookeville Cavaliers

Smyrna is a perfect 4-0 against Cookeville since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. Smyrna's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Cookeville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Smyrna is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Stewarts Creek, who was ranked 17th at the time (Smyrna was ranked 25th). The Bulldogs came up short against the Red Hawks on Thursday, falling 12-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bulldogs, who until this matchup were averaging 3.22 runs allowed.

Talia Paredes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, Cookeville came into Monday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on White County with a sharp 10-2 victory on Monday.

Cookeville's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Smyrna, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 13-5.

Smyrna beat Cookeville 5-1 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
