Softball Recap: Naugatuck's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Naugatuck waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Holy Cross Crusaders by a score of 5-2. That's more bragging rights for the Greyhounds, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leah Chatfield made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Chatfield wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Amanda Torrens, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Naugatuck's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Holy Cross, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Naugatuck is set to face off against their familiar foe Oxford at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Holy Cross will square off against rival Torrington at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
