League recap: Itawamba Agricultural propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Itawamba Agricultural was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Amory. The Indians came in at 15 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.

Itawamba Agricultural extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating the Panthers, 35-13. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Indians.

Shannon's dynamic duo of John Thomas Peugh and Chavis Dilworth proved tough for Tishomingo County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Peugh threw for 93 yards and one touchdown and Dilworth had 139 yards receiving. Jarqueveus Smith helped Shannon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 60 yards.

Ashton Shumpert was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 300 yards on 25 carries as Itawamba Agricultural defeated the Braves. Teammate Charles Moore added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.

Amory's Jon David Poss and Devin McIntosh have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Poss has thrown for 1967 yards this season, while McIntosh, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 31 catches for 712 yards. Shannon's Diamante Pounds leads the league in rushing yards with 1311.

Entering into this week's contest against Pontotoc, Poss is short just 33 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.

A big matchup in 4A Region 1 this week will be when the Warriors take on the Panthers. At the moment, Pontotoc is in fourth, while Amory is in second.

Corinth and the Warriors played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Corinth eventually emerging with a 14-11 victory. Brady Allen threw for 28 yards and one touchdown and ran for two yards in the win.
