Softball Recap: Middleton Beats Verona for Their 13th Straight Win

Middleton had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Verona Wildcats with a sharp 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Megan Button made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Middleton let Macey Blazek and Hailey Stroede run wild. Blazek went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Stroede went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Klock, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Middleton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Middleton's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Verona, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-3.
