Baseball Game Preview: Atkins Red Devils vs. Jessieville Lions

The Atkins Red Devils will face off against the Jessieville Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Atkins is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of St. Joseph by a score of 10-9 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Devils in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Fischer McKnight and Jaxson Koenigseder stepped up to the plate in a big way. McKnight scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Koenigseder scored three runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Brown, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Jessieville posted their closest win since March 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Centerpoint 12-10. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jessieville let Jayden Meredith and Daniel Dellis run wild. Meredith went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI, while Dellis scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that Dellis snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Kingston Morrow, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Atkins' loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Jessieville, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Jessieville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Atkins hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Jessieville, though, as they've only averaged .198. Will they be able to contain Atkins' hitters?

Atkins came up short against Jessieville in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, falling 12-8. Can Atkins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
