Xzavion Mitchell named 2024-25 Wisconsin MaxPreps High School Basketball Player of the Year

Senior forward guided Oshkosh North to Division 1 state semifinals.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Xzavion Mitchell of Oshkosh North (Oshkosh) is the 2024-25 Wisconsin MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-7 senior forward led the Spartans to a 19-10 record and trip to the Division 1 state semifinals.

For the season, Mitchell averaged 34.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.2 assists per game. He shot 56.4 percent from the field, 29.0 percent from 3-point range and 83.7 percent from the free throw line.

Mitchell earned Mr. Basketball honors from the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association and was a four-time all-state selection. He finished his career with 2,824 points, which ranks second in state history.



During a six-game stretch this season, Mitchell averaged 43.2 points per contest while tallying 52, 49, 50 and 51 during that span. He also piled up 47 points and 15 rebounds in a 79-75 win against De Pere in the state quarterfinals.

Regarded as the No. 81 prospect in the Class of 2025 according to 247Sports, Mitchell signed with Iowa State over offers from Cal Poly, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
