Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Vail Christian

Vail Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 63-52 win over the Hayden Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Saints also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vail Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Asher Leonard, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Leonard has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Rayman Romanin, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Hayden still got an impressive performance from Jace Bene, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Bene a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Preston, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points.

Vail Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Hayden, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Vail Christian will square off against Plateau Valley at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. As for Hayden, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Hayden Tigers challenge the North Park Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
