Preview: East Central Hornets vs. Reagan Rattlers
The East Central Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Reagan Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, East Central got the win against San Marcos by a conclusive 45-21. The victory made it back-to-back wins for East Central.
Isaiah Mackey was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 220 yards and a touchdown. Cyelan Whitley was in the mix too, providing East Central with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Reagan put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Brandeis for the full four quarters, racking up a 39-7 victory on the road. Given Reagan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Brandeis is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Reagan can attribute much of their success to Brad Jackson, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 90 yards on only eight carries. Caleb Cappuccio was another key contributor, picking up 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
East Central's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Reagan, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
East Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Reagan in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, winning 14-7. Will East Central repeat their success, or does Reagan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
