Basketball Recap: Great Bridge Takes a Loss

Great Bridge lost against Western Branch back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Great Bridge Wildcats lost 80-59 to the Western Branch Bruins. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st in Virginia, while the Bruins are ranked 140th in Virginia).

Western Branch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zyon Barnes led the charge by putting up 20 points. Barnes has become a key player for Western Branch: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Clark, who posted 19 points.

Great Bridge dropped their record down to 3-18 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Western Branch, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Great Bridge and Western Branch will both be playing King's Fork the next time they take the court. Great Bridge will host King's Fork at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while Western Branch will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
