Baseball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Beats Bernalillo for Their Fifth Straight Win

Albuquerque Academy came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bernalillo Spartans 7-0. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 2-1 win on April 11th.

Matthew Delaney made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He has become a key player for Albuquerque Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Andrew Olson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Corbett Thomas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Albuquerque Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Bernalillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Albuquerque Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Lovington on the 9th. As for Bernalillo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-8 defeat against Valley on the 2nd.
