Football Recap: West Springfield Extends Winning Streak to Four + How To Watch

West Springfield extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 5-2. They put the hurt on the Yorktown Patriots with a sharp 31-7 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Spartans just coasted through the last quarter.

Dillan Wickham was his usual excellent self, rushing for 207 yards and three scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 117.7 rushing yards per game.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something West Springfield proved: they limited Yorktown to a paltry 0.6 yards per carry. The Spartans' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.93 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.8 on average over their last five games.

As for Yorktown, they moved to 4-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite the loss, Yorktown still got an impressive performance from Sammy Keiser, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one TD.

West Springfield will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fairfax at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Yorktown, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 45-6 victory against Wakefield on the 17th.
