Basketball Recap: Zoey Leners Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Maple Lake

It's playoff time, and Upsala had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Maple Lake Irish by a score of 57-45 on Thursday. The Cardinals' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Upsala got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zoey Leners out in front who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Leners has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Samantha Pilarski was another key player, putting up ten points along with six boards and five steals.

Upsala smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Upsala has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Maple Lake is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-21.

Upsala has already played their next match, a 54-51 win against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on the 1st. Maple Lake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
