Clay waltzed into their game on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the St. John's Jesuit Titans. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Jayce Derr tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Bryce Besgrove was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brannan Vargas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Clay's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for St. John's Jesuit, they moved to 8-2 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Coming up, Clay will face off against Findlay at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.4, the Trojans 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. John's Jesuit, they will challenge St. Mary's Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
