Baseball Recap: Rauner Sets Scoring Season-High Against the Noble Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rauner). They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over The Noble Academy Griffins on Wednesday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Lucas Ghanimah made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Rauner: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-6 otherwise. Ghanimah was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Shanley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryden Carrasco, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Rauner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Rauner and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Coming up, Rauner will take on UIC College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats are facing the Firecats at the right time seeing as the Firecats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. The Noble Academy has already played their next contest (against Rowe-Clark), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
