Softball Game Preview: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Chaffey Tigers

For the second straight game, Don Lugo will face off against Chaffey. The Conquistadores will take on the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Don Lugo has three straight wins, Chaffey has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Don Lugo's victory against Chaffey wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Conquistadores had just enough and edged out the Tigers 10-9 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Conquistadores have posted against the Tigers since April 4, 2022.

Alyssa Martinez was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Angeline Canez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Don Lugo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Don Lugo's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chaffey, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1.

Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Don Lugo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349.
