Baseball Game Preview: Huntsville Hornets vs. Almeta Crawford Chargers

The Huntsville Hornets will square off against the Almeta Crawford Chargers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Huntsville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Rudder on Friday as Huntsville made off with a 15-4 victory. The Hornets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8, 2024.

Meanwhile, Almeta Crawford came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 26-0 win.

Logan Shields was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Shane Rourick was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joey Garcia, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Almeta Crawford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .540. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Almeta Crawford's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Huntsville, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
