Basketball Recap: Macie Gustin Key Part of a Team Effort in Buffaloes Win

Tooele won the last time they faced Hillcrest and things went their way on Friday too. The Tooele Buffaloes came out on top against the Hillcrest Huskies by a score of 61-51. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Buffaloes.

Tooele got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Macie Gustin out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Gustin has posted since back in December of 2024. Kennedy Searle was another key player, going 8 of 12 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds.

Tooele smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Hillcrest had strong showings from Dayana Mulamba, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, and Emily Mandel, who went 6 for 12 to rack up 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Amelia Lepore, who earned eight points and four steals.

Tooele's record now sits at 16-7. As for Hillcrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Looking ahead, Tooele will take on West Field at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tooele is facing West Field at the right time seeing as West Field is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Hillcrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
