Basketball Game Preview: Stratford Academy Eagles vs. Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers

Stratford Academy is 10-0 against Mount de Sales Academy since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Stratford Academy Eagles will face off against the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. Stratford Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Last Tuesday, Stratford Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Piedmont Academy, taking the game 48-38. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Cougars are ranked 473rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Stratford Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Sewell, who posted 18 points. The dominant performance gave Sewell a new career-high in points. Frankie Raines Jr was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Stratford Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Mount de Sales Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-64 heartbreaker at the hands of Tattnall Square Academy.

Stratford Academy is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Mount de Sales Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Everything came up roses for Stratford Academy against Mount de Sales Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 68-41 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stratford Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
