Basketball Game Preview: Elkhorn Valley Falcons vs. Stanton Mustangs

Elkhorn Valley is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Stanton is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Elkhorn Valley Falcons will host the Stanton Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhorn Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.

Elkhorn Valley is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing West Holt: they outscored them in every quarter. Elkhorn Valley enjoyed a cozy 49-31 victory over West Holt on Saturday. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Huskies are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elkhorn Valley had a senior duo take command as Karlee Broberg went 8 of 16 on her way to 26 points and three steals and Jj Black dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Broberg's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Rutjens, who posted four points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Stanton earned a 44-31 win over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday.

Stanton's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Elkhorn Valley, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.

Elkhorn Valley took their victory against Stanton in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 53-27. Will Elkhorn Valley repeat their success, or does Stanton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
