Softball Recap: Portales Comes Up Short

Portales extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lovington Wildcats. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Portales saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annaleah Lujan, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Lovington, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-5. Four seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Lovington's side, Daphne Utajara spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Utajara has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

Portales has already played their next matchup (against Goddard), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lovington also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Artesia.
